Drama is integrated into the classroom at all levels: From the “under the sea” plays in 2nd grade to dramatic readings of “Hamlet” in the senior year. Additionally, starting in the Seventh grade, students can participate in the school play. With direction and guidance from adult advisors, students in the upper school learn not only lines but also how to construct sets, create costumes, apply makeup, and operate lighting and sound equipment. Students learn how to block a scene and, during our musical years, how to sing and dance. Some will even have a chance to be an assistant director. Redeemer theatre has presented a range of plays from Shakespeare to The Sound of Music, from Moliere to The Music Man. Each production is a product of the greater Redeemer community with even grandparents and younger siblings helping behind the scenes.
This year the students will be performing "A Year with Frog and Toad" and will include students from both the Upper and Grammar schools. The play will be performed March 10 and 11 at Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren.
